They started from the ground up, with minimal resources and clientele. They have built their way to a successful business, now representing over 20 other insurance and investment groups. They have expanded their business from life insurance to home, auto, health, and annuities insurance policies.
Their dedication to insurance is their own way of helping people before they even know they need help. They insure that families can survive if a parent or spouse unexpectedly passes, or that people's homes may be saved if a hurricane were to hit. Their careers are surrounded around keeping people safe in an unconventional way.
I enrolled in ENT3003 as an interesting elective business course to take. I hope to learn how to apply entrepreneurship to not only business, but my everyday life. I want to be capable of recognizing hidden opportunities and looking for them in all aspects of my life.
Nicole,
ReplyDeleteThat is so inspiring! I have always viewed insurance agents as a necessary evil, there because everybody needs insurance but not really caring for who the people truly are. Insurance always seemed like a very dull and unfulfilling profession to me. Thank you for opening my eyes! It's beautiful to see people actually care about improving the lives of others and not just robbing them of their money, while also building a successful business. This inspires me one day to open up my own business to help people in some way, not just capitalize on their money. Thank you for sharing!

Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI think that what I liked the most about your story was that your parents essentially went against the status quo and deviated from their employers. Although they took the same concept from their employers, they were able to expand upon an unmet need. We talked in class about how if you were to create another "Uber" app, that you would need to offer something that Uber doesn't. Otherwise, you would just be competing with an already successful business. Fortunately, your parents were able to differentiate themselves and that's what entrepreneurship is all about.
Unfortunately, my blog post isn't as original as I would like it to be (see below) and I didn't meet an unmet need that football fans have. I kind of went with the flow, which is why it wasn't as successful as your parents' business. What's similar about our stories however, is that we both sold products and/or services that already existed instead of coming up with our own.
